The growing awareness that a sustainable waste management strategy is on itself insufficient to reach the desired systemic shift, has convinced me that a thorough understanding of (the nexus between) the economic principles driving the decisions of policy makers, producers and households is crucial for designing a feasible path towards a genuine circular economy.
After completing his PhD in 2011 on the impact of economic incentives in waste and materials management, Simon De Jaeger continued his academic career as assistant professor at the KU Leuven in the Research Centre for Economics and Corporate Sustainability (CEDON). His research interests include evaluation of policy instruments, efficiency analysis of recyclable flows and location-routing modelling for waste/material processing infrastructure. Since 2016, Simon is head of the research centre CEDON.
