Legal bottlenecks

A smooth transition to a circular economy is accompanied by a significant number of legal bottlenecks in the current legislation and regulations. This includes obstacles in the field of taxation, product legislation, combating 'greenwashing', contract law, product safety and liability, property law, environmental law, procurement law, etc. In addition, the policy level is also confronted with the complex division of competences between European, federal, regional and local level. The legislative train expected from the European Commission in the context of the Green Deal (in which the transition to a circular economy occupies an important place) will sharpen these challenges. The legal team of the Circular Economy Support Center is looking for solutions to these bottlenecks. This team combines the expertise of researchers from Hasselt University and KU Leuven.
